It has been confirmed that 8000 people will carry the Olympic Flame in the run up to the Olympic Games. The London 2012 Organising Committee filtered through tens of thousands of nominations and through a rigorous selection process chose the lucky nominees chosen to bear the Olympic Torch.
The inspirational torch bearers are individuals with a range of backgrounds and life experiences including those who have fought serious illness and people who have gone above and beyond for their community along with athletes and celebrities.
During its long journey, the Olympic Torch will come within 10 miles of 95% of the population of the UK, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. The torch will be carried through a total of 1019 communities who will have the opportunity to show off their local areas culture and landscape!
The Olympic Torch is also set to travel in some unusual and interesting ways including by horseback, steam train and even a zip wire.
