Course introduction
Undertaking this course, will help you learn the fundamentals of caring for children. It will provide students with the relevant skills needed to care for young children, allowing students to learn about a child’s growth, learning, and development. It will address the importance of child participation in learning activities in order to improve a young child’s confidence. This course also offers the opportunity to study either the award, certificate, or diploma. You can then top up your level 1 certificate in caring for children to achieve a diploma qualification.

NCFE CACHE (Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education) are a leading awarding organisation specialising in the care and education sector. CACHE endorse a range of qualifications to individuals and organisations throughout the UK and internationally.
At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Level 1 NCFE certificate of achievement. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 1 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. It means that this learning programme has been scrutinised and approved by an independent panel of experienced educational professionals and is quality audited biannually by NCFE. NCFE is recognised as an awarding body by the qualification regulators ('regulators') for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Unit 1: Growth and Development of young children
This unit will focus on the factors that influence growth and development from birth to 5 years, it will also include activity ideas that can promote children’s physical development.
Unit 2: Practical Health and Safety when with young children.
This unit will look at health and safety guidance and the potential hazards that may arise whilst looking after young children.
Unit 3: Respecting and Valuing Children
This unit will look at ways to communicate with children to ensure they feel valued. It will give an overview of the organisations that promote the rights of children.
Unit 4: Understanding Learning and Development through play
This unit looks at features of a setting that could contribute to a positive learning environment, and how these features might instigate children to learn through the use of play activities and strategies.
Unit 5: Confidence Building for the young children through play.
This unit highlights how to encourage positive expression through play and helps build young children’s confidence. It suggests activities that will help children to express their feelings.
Unit 6: Sharing Learning experiences with children
This unit will help you to understand the importance of identifying the different ways of learning, such as, using sensory aids to help the learning development of young children.
Unit 7: Self-development
This unit will look at how self-development can contribute to personal achievement.
It looks at how to encourage self-development by focusing on weaknesses and strengths.
Unit 8: Science activities for young children
This unit focuses primarily on the importance of science activities and demonstrates how science activities support learning.
Unit 9: Technology activities for young children
This unit discusses the importance of technology and how technological activities can promote better focus and learning.
Unit 10: Musical Activities for young children
This unit explores the benefit of creativity through the use of musical activities which children can participate in to encourage positive interaction within musical games and activities.
Learner support
The learner will receive access to this course through a dedicated online learning portal.
The learner will have access to the course materials 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The learner will be able to contact their tutor through the learning portal via the messaging systems. The learner will also upload their assignments through this portal to ensure that a single system handles all the learner’s needs.The tutor is there to provide the learner with advice and guidance throughout the course and to mark the unit assignments.
